Concern
Pigmentation & Uneven Tone
Sun damage, post-inflammatory marks and hormonal patches behave differently.
Pigmentation is the most common thing people come in for on the Highveld, and the one where the type matters most. Three different things get called the same name, and treating one as though it were another is how tone ends up worse than it started.
Three different problems
Sun-induced pigmentation — discrete brown spots and freckling on the areas that catch the most light. This is the most straightforward to address and the one that responds best to light-based treatment.
Post-inflammatory pigmentation — flat marks left where a breakout, an ingrown hair or an injury healed. These generally fade on their own, but slowly, and resurfacing shortens the timeline considerably.
Melasma — larger, symmetrical, softly-edged patches across the cheeks, forehead and upper lip, usually hormonally driven and often worsened by heat. Melasma is managed rather than resolved, and aggressive treatment reliably makes it worse. A plan for melasma looks conservative on purpose.
Sunscreen is the treatment
This is the part nobody wants to hear and the part that decides the outcome. Every treatment on this page reduces existing pigment. None of them stop new pigment forming, and Gauteng sits at altitude with high year-round UV.
Daily broad-spectrum protection, reapplied, is not an add-on sale. Without it a pigmentation course is money spent undoing damage that is being replaced faster than it clears.
What a plan looks like
Most pigmentation plans run three to six months and combine in-clinic resurfacing or light-based treatment with a home routine that suppresses pigment production between appointments. Progress is checked against photographs taken at the start, because gradual change is genuinely difficult to see in your own mirror.
