Acne & Breakouts

Congestion, inflammation and the marks left behind — addressed in that order.

Acne is rarely one problem. There is usually congestion sitting below the surface, inflammation on top of it, and a trail of flat brown or red marks left where earlier breakouts healed. Each of those responds to something different, which is why a single treatment applied to all three tends to disappoint.

Sorting out what is actually happening

Closed congestion — the small bumps that never come to a head — behaves differently from inflammatory breakouts, and both behave differently from the marks left afterwards. The first assessment separates them, because the order in which they are addressed matters.

Timing matters too. Breakouts that follow a monthly pattern, or that arrived with a new medication, or that appeared after a change in routine, all point in different directions.

How a plan usually runs

Congestion is cleared first, with deep cleansing and extractions performed properly under magnification. Once the surface is clearer, resurfacing work reduces the appearance of remaining marks and helps keep follicles clear.

Where earlier breakouts have left indented scarring rather than flat marks, microneedling becomes part of the plan — but only once active inflammation has settled, never during it.

The home care half

In-clinic work carries perhaps half of an acne plan. What you do daily carries the rest. That routine will be specific and it will be short — long routines are abandoned, and an abandoned routine does nothing.
